The Armory Partners Group has developed a unique proposal to renovate and rehabilitate the Fort Homer Hesterly Armory site. The Group is urged to revitalize the sense of community and spur economic growth of the West Tampa neighborhood.
The proposed Armory Community Revitalization Project, with the West Tampa community’s input, will preserve the area’s historic integrity, promote its resources, and benefit its residents.
The Group's proposal also supports three important strategic tenets of West Tampa and the City of Tampa’s leadership ...
- Investing in the Neighborhood
- Generating Economic Development
- Supporting the Arts
Michael Randolph of the West Tampa CDC, estimates that nearly 30 percent of West Tampa residents are engaged in the cultural arts. Because West Tampa is the one of the poorest neighborhoods in the City, many residents dance, write and paint without pay or for very little compensation.
By partnering with the West Tampa CDC, our project will provide opportunity for the people living in West Tampa. Our project dovetails with existing development efforts. Our project preserves the historical significance of the site.
- Per capita income is expected to increase
- Unemployment is expected to decrease
- Creative jobs will be developed
- Surrounding services will expand
With the redevelopment of the Armory site into a mix of affordable rental housing, community access, creative services businesses, shops and job/career training, West Tampa will realize …
- An increase in the median income
- Major shopping/business centers enticed to locate within its boundaries
- Homeownership will grow
- Property upkeep will improve
- Property values will rise
- Sustained economic growth
